Founded in 1928, the Provincial Anhui University set up the School of Agronomy, and in July 1936 the school established the Department of Agricultural Economy and recruited 20 students majoring in agricultural economy that same year. Unfortunately, due to the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Provincial Anhui University suspended operations. The School of Agriculture launched an independent college in Hefei in 1954 and set up an Agricultural Economy Office, which was mainly responsible for teaching courses likeAgricultural EconomyandStatistics, and participated in research involving rural economy and agricultural policies conducted by the Anhui Provincial government . The School of Agriculture established a preparatory team for the Department of Agricultural Economy in 1979 and formally restored the construction of the department in 1980. Then, the undergraduate program of agricultural economy management was set up, and 35 undergraduates were enrolled the same year. In 1990, the school was entitled to confer master’s degrees.In 2001, the Department of Agricultural Economy was renamed the School of Economy and Management (SEM), in which the agricultural economy management program was rated the key program in Anhui Province.
The school offers 13 undergraduate programs: Accounting, Agro-Forestry Economics and Management Economics, Finance, Financial Management, Information Networks & Management, Insurance Studies, International Economy and Trade, Land Resources and Management, Marketing, Public Administration, Regional Development in Agriculture, Tourism Management. It also offers 7 master’s degree programs: Agricultural Economy Management, Technological Economy and Management, Forestry Management, Industrial Economics, Agricultural Promotion—Rural and Regional Development.
The school has a proficient and competent team of teaching and research staff with 117 faculty members, including 10 professors and 30 associate professors. It enrolls 2,893 undergraduates and 422 postgraduates. The school has undertaken more 100 projects at different levels and received 25 million RMB in scientific grants. It has published 520 academic papers and over 20 teaching materials and monographs.
With the discipline restructuring of Anhui Agricultural University in June 2004, the School of Economy and Management was divided into two schools: the School of Management Science and the School of Economy and Trade. Based on the disciplines of the original School of Economy and Management, the School of Management Science brought together all the management-related majors in all other schools, which consist of 6 undergraduate programs (Agriculture and Forestry Economy Management,Rural Region Development and so on) and two master degree programs(Agricultural Economy Management, Technological Economy and Management). The School of Economy and Trade is composed of the economy programs including two undergraduate programs (Finance, International Economy and Trade) and one master degree program (Industrial Economics).From July 2004 to February 2010, the School of Management Science has developed into a large school that boasts nine undergraduate programs and four master degree conferring stations; the School of Economy and Trade boasted four undergraduate programs and one professional master’s degree program (Agricultural Promotion—Rural and Regional Development).After the new round of restructuring in March 2010, the School of Management Science and the School of Economy and Trade were rejoined to make the School of Economy and Management.
